Inauguration Day

So, today's the day a lot of people have been waiting for...Bush is out, Obama is in. So, what am I doing to observe the change in power?

Working...just like any other Tuesday. I know this inauguration day has been hyped like no other, and there is almost orgasmic joy with a lot of people. So, I know just going to work is not giving the new president his due. But, when it comes down to it, we as a nation need to get back to work. This is why I am a tad disappointed at all the pomp and circumstance. If there was ever a time for a more subdued swearing in, this is it.

Don't get me wrong, this is a historic moment. An African-American president is a big deal...however, do we need all this?

Best of luck, President Obama...you are going to need it.

I'm working today as well (but having a celebratory drink tonight). Will probably be spectating in the breakroom round about inauguratin' time. The pre-inaugural/celebrity crap was truly boring to me, but I say give leave to all pomp and circumstance in honor of the actual event! Why not celebrate today? Regardless about how we felt about the old one, why not be happy about a new president? We deserve some optimism and excitement...it's been a long hard eight years.

I'm not going to begrudge anyone a celebration just because I don't share in it.

We have to wish Mr. Obama well because, for better or worse, we're in the car with him now. He's a smart man and capable of learning. Good thing, too, because he's about to get a hell of an education. It's been a long, hard eight years because, in the main, life is long and hard, at least when it's not solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. It's only been through the hard work and dedication of those who came before us that we've been fortunate enough to largely escape the Hobbesian state of nature.

I think Obama understands that. That gives me hope.

I did not see any of the inauguration as it happened. Had too much going on at work.

As for my post, I don't think any inauguration should be that big of a deal...my take is that an orderly transition of power should be just that. I think we'll have really arrived as a country when we can have another minority president be inaugurated and have the reaction be a shrug..as in no big deal.

Then again, I have been tired of politics for quite some time. Frankly, I just want to get past today and have President Obama get to work.

The more I think about this, and the more I see of the footage, the more I am lightening up about this. I also think what is really bugging me is what bores Amanda, i.e. the inaugural/celebrity crap. Also, the media coverage is past the point of saturation. But, y'all are right...it's his day.

you're 'on' stinger.
though the man deserves his day, we citizens also deserve a respite from the hype and saturation.

his day is in DC, so why am i being held hostage in lake elsinore,CA?

Thanks Amanda...by the way, what is going to be good: the drink, or the Obama presidency?
