...and the sun rises in the east

This article in the Star Tribune talks about how my congressman, Keith Ellison, doesn't have any credible challengers. While the premise is sound, it also rates as shocking as the sun rising everyday. I love how the Strib tries to play like the 5th is even close to being a remotely competitive district.

Barb White, the GOP token competitor, doesn't stand a chance. The only question here is whether White will finish 2nd or 3rd (to the Greenie candidate). This seat is Keith Ellison's as long as he wants it. The only thing that would guarantee it even more is if he made his middle name Olav and put it on the ballot.

Actually, Barb Davis White is an excellent candidate. She'd make a fine representative in Congress. She won't win, because Ellison will hide from her, just as Betty!!! McCollum is hiding from Ed Matthews here in the Fighting 4th. But if voters could actually see White and Ellison on the same stage a half-dozen times, White would win.

I guess what I mean by credible is whether they can actually challenge Ellison in the district. I am sure Barb White has a lot of good things to say. I am also sure that she would do a lot better in a different district. In the 5th, Ellison has that DFL next to his name, so it's already over. Even if White got Ellison to debate 25 times. Minneapolis is so dominant in the 5th that there is no way this will ever change (unless Minneapolis and St. Paul are ever put in the same district).

The only way Ellison was going away was with a primary challenge.
